The Undercover Spy Lab

The Site – DroneRiot.com

Flippa Listing - https://flippa.com/10158504-droneriot-com

Date Sold - 3rd April 2019

Price Sold For - $10,000

Age of Site When Sold – 2 Years

Details – Here's a great example of building sites in trending niches. The drone market is getting more and more popular and this site has been developed well. Making just $400 per month, it's another nice five figure flip.

Keywords Targeted – It targets keywords related to drones and accessories.

Backlinks – According to MajesticSEO there are less than 100 links in total.

What My Plan Would Be To Clone The Results – I would set up a brand new site using a domain name that had the word 'drone' or 'drones' in it. I would then create 3,000 word content posts that target relevant keywords and place Amazon native ads on each page. I would most likely need to have 40+ posts on the site to become more of an authority but these can be added on an ongoing basis.

I would use social, Web 2.0 and PBN links to rank the site over the course of 12+ months. I would heavily focus on getting topically related and thematically related backlinks.

The aim would be to get to $1,000+ per month in profit and then sell for $20,000 - $30,000.

The Sniper Lab

The Sniper Lab is all about creating small 3-5 page websites that target buyer keywords with an Exact Match Domain (EMD).

You simply browse the Amazon marketplace to find products, then put those into the Google keyword planner and see what searches come up. Find one that gets 250+ searches a month that has a .com available domain and you're good to go!

You can use a free keyword tool like this one to get more accurate search volumes than the Google keyword planner now gives you.

These are really simple sites to make and each can make you 4 figures in profit when you sell them. They make great additions to add to your Amazon empire.

drone101.org - 170 searches per month

droneunder500.com - 210 searches per month

dronezoomcamera.com - 210 searches per month

droneuk.org - 320 searches per month

drone360camera.com - 390 searches per month

dronekitwithcamera.com - 590 searches per month

These will obviously be snapped up fast by members but give you an idea of what to look for. A new list will be added every month.

The Ranking Lab

Making More With A List

If you've been following my blog, then you have probably noticed that I'm testing a new affiliate model for me. This involves selling affiliate products via building a system that revolves around providing value and driving traffic to that value.

And whilst I've never really built lists from my Amazon sites, I can now see why it would be a great idea.

So here's what I would recommend...

  • Whatever niche your site is in, you will almost certainly be able to find either a free report or ebook in that niche. If you can't find one then you can either write a short report yourself or pay someone to create one for you. You can add links to your site in this report.
  • Set up an optin form using an autoresponder like Aweber or Getresponse and add a sign up form onto your site. In the sidebar is always a good place.
  • Create a series of tips in the form of follow up emails and schedule them to go out daily to the people who sign up. Add links back to your site so they can learn more and also see your affiliate links.

By doing this, you should be able to make more money from your site, by only setting everything up the once. This also gives you another asset to sell and should mean you get more money for your websites.

It's certainly something I will be doing myself and can now see just how powerful list building really is (I know, I've avoided it for far too long!).

The Q and A Lab

Questions that have been sent in this month:

Q – Do you ever buy traffic?

A – Whilst I'm testing paid traffic methods for list building, I never buy traffic for Amazon sites. The cost of ads is very difficult to make it profitable. Bing ads would be my recommendation if you did want to try it. Forget Facebook ads as they would be far too expensive.

Q – You don't list many sites on Flippa, any reason?

A – I sell 99% of my sites to existing buyers. I do list the odd ones on Flippa to gain more buyers but the costs have raised a lot. $200 to list an established site means you have to be sure it will sell and must be making $50+ per month to make it worthwhile. Selling to existing lists reduces costs dramatically which is why I don't list that many on Flippa these days.

Q – Any niches to avoid?

A – I've never been a fan of anything in electronics. Models change so often and you need to be constantly adding new products to your site so that they are relevant and new. I mainly like products that last for years and don't update too often. Exercise equipment, for example, is great as models can last for years. It's also important to check the commission level for categories. There's a big difference between making 4% or 8% for products priced the same, so always check the table to see where niches lie.
